When will it end
I find myself getting more and more angry these days with the constant ‘nanny state'offering ‘advice'on what we should be doing with ourselves, our children, our homes, and even our money. I find it almost insulting some of the reports that come out these days, where we are being told how to raise our children, how to eat properly and how to look after our money. It seems as though soon there will be big posters telling me how to go to the toilet correctly!

The constant new rules and regulations that come out are usually to force the small minority of people who are unable to think and act correctly into conforming to the usual practises or society. It is done by threatening to punish them if they do not.
The latest one to affect my life has come about as a result of the school regulations that now state that it is no longer my choice as a parent whether I wish to take my child out of school for a few days, as I can be fined for it. Now I know the rule was made to try and ensure that truancy figures are reduced by making parents of truant children start to care about whether their kids are in school or not, because if they are not they will be financially punished.

The problem I have with this, is that for the vast majority of parents this is a big restriction on their ability to choose what is best for their own child. In my case, I was hoping to take my son to visit his family in Spain for a few days during term time, as we cannot afford the high flight prices in the holiday periods. Now I am unable to do this for fear of facing punishment.
It is a restriction of my right to decide what I wish to do with my own son’s life, and is quite frankly insulting to my intelligence. I think I should be the one deciding whether my own son is allowed to miss a few days of school or not, not the government. especially as I am a responsible parent who ensures that he attends school everyday under normal circumstances!
